Violence Research Lab at the Annual Scientific Conference of the Croatian Academy of Legal Sciences

On October 22, 2020, Head of Violence Research Lab – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anna-Maria Getoš Kalac, and research members – Assist. Prof. Dr. Lucija Sokanović, Dr. Reana Bezić, Petra Šprem, Dalia Pribisalić, as well as the President of the Scientific Advisory Board of Violence Lab, Prof. Dr. Davor Derenčinović (who is also the President of the Academy) participated in the Annual Scientific Conference of the Croatian Academy of Legal Sciences entitled “Local Traditions and Global Development: Legal, Institutional and Historical Aspects".

Head of the project Getoš Kalac along with research members Bezić and Šprem held a presentation on the topic “Prison system in the Republic of Croatia and European trends". The presentation pointed out the main challenges which the Croatian prison system is facing as well as its basic statistical indicators. The main conclusions relate to the unsustainability of the system, the disproportionate number of detainees in relation to prisoners, expert deficit and the lack of a systematic analysis and strategy for managing the prison system.
