Dr. Reana Bezić as the new Head of the Project
Following the public call of the Croatian Ministry of Science and Education and the nomination by the University of Zagreb’s Senate, Prof. Dr. Anna-Maria Getoš Kalac, Head of the Violence Lab, was nominated and elected by the Croatian Government to the Parliament as one of 7 members of the new Executive Board of the Croatian Science Foundation (from the field of social sciences).
During her mandate as Executive Board of the Croatian Science Foundation, Dr. Reana Bezić was appointed as a new Head of the Violence Lab, starting from 17th of June 2021. Dr. Reana Bezić works at University of Zagreb, Faculty of Law, Chair of Criminal Law, where she teaches criminology, victimology, comparative criminology and basics of criminal law. After graduating from the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, she worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck partner group for Balkan Criminology (MPPG) at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Law in cooperation with the MPICC. She earned her PhD at the University of Freiburg’s Faculty of Law in coop. with the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg (MPICC), Germany. She was a visiting doctoral researcher and fellowship holder of the Max Planck Society at the MPICC in 2015, 2016 and 2018. In 2015 she has been granted with Basileus V, Erasmus Mundus Action 2 project, funded by European Commission.
Since 2013, she has been a member of the MPPG and has been involved in the International Self-Report Delinquency Study (ISRD-3), Balkan Homicide Study, Perceptions of Fear of Crime and Punitivity Among University Students, Restorative Justice at Post-Sentencing Level – Supporting and Protecting Victims project and International Self-Report Delinquency Study (ISRD-4). As of 2018 she has been appointed as National Correspondent for Croatia in LINCS project (European Sourcebook). Since 2019 she has been a Head of the Violence Research Lab in Zagreb and co-chairs the ESC working group “European Violence Monitor”. She has published several scientific and professional papers and participated actively in a number of national and international scientific conferences.
